It was a really difficult year for Mercedes, as the company expanded its production line and introduced new innovative technologies designed to make life easier on the road.
Such systems include a new user interface MBUX with internal assistant, E-the ACTIVE Body Control feature washing machine, fully variable all-wheel drive system 4MATIC (as seen in the GLE 2020), 48-volt system, V8 engines and soon.
MBUX assistant interior
MBUX stands for “user experience Mercedes-Benz”, and unlike version MY19, a newer variation provides “an intuitive, natural control with a different level of comfort and functionality thanks to the motion detection”. This is possible because of the camera in the overhead console that registers the movements of the arms and hands of the driver and front passenger.
When your hand approaches the touch display or touchpad on the centre console screen infotainment system is changing, highlighting individual elements. Other features include hand gestures and personalized programs.
E-ACTIVE Body Control
This technology is based on fully networked hydropneumatic active suspension, powered by 48-volt platform and working together with the newly developed air suspension. According to the German automaker, it is the only system on the market in which the spring and damping forces can be individually controlled at each wheel.
The result is a suspension setup that can counter body roll, as well as tilt and subsidence – really useful on large vehicles such as SUVs.
If you happen to buy a brand new Mercedes GLS, you should know that there are some techniques that you can use while washing the car. The washing function automatically sets the suspension to its highest position, fold the mirrors, close Windows and sunroof will shut off the rain sensor will switch the climate control to air recirculation mode and activates a 360 degree view of the front camera.
When you leave the wash, these settings will automatically return to its normal state when you will see up to 19 km / h.
Fully variable 4MATIC
All-wheel drive system 4MATIC Mercedes received further development, and, from 2020 GLE, now it can change the torque distribution between front and rear axle from 0 to 100%, depending on the selected driving mode.
V8 with a 48-volt system
For the 2020 model year, Mercedes has given electrified powertrain V8 GLE and GLS (GLE 580 and 580 GLS), consisting of a V8 petrol unit with 48-volt on-Board electrical system and a built-in starter.
Configuration produces 483 HP (490 HP) and 516 Nm (700 Nm) of torque, while an additional 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) and 21 HP are available when EQ Boost for short periods of time. The starter generator also is responsible for the hybrid functions such as recuperation of energy.
Options 35 and 45 AMG
Now buyers of Mercedes-AMG can purchase models of the CLA and A-class, equipped with a 2.0-liter turbine unit with capacity of 4 liters (35), with a capacity of 302 HP (306 HP). CLA 45, on the other hand, ukomplektovana the world’s most powerful serial 2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine with a capacity of 382 HP (387 HP) and torque of 354 lb-ft (480 Nm).
A function of cross traffic
This feature allows the car to brake at speeds typical maneuvers that are necessary to prevent a possible collision with oncoming traffic. The car will run the brakes if the driver indicates the intention to turn (with turn signal) – stop before crossing the lane marking.
The function of departure warning
This year the cars are equipped with “Blind spot”, is also equipped with a new feature of warning about leaving the car. It works by reducing the risk of collision with other participants of traffic after Parking the car – for example, it protects from passing cyclists.
The system monitors the dead zone, when the car is standing or is parked, and can alert the driver (visual warning in the mirrors and audible through the instrument cluster) about approaching vehicles, motorcycles or bicycles when opening doors. Mercedes will even keep this feature active for three minutes after turning off the engine.
