One of the new versions of the drug for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis can be used to treat certain symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.
A new clinical trial in US is recruiting people with Alzheimer’s to find out whether a new drug to stop or slow memory loss and other symptoms, informs Rus.Media.
The test is called “T2 Protect AD.” It includes 48 weeks of treatment and observation. Subjects will receive either placebo or the drug Trilussa (troriluzole), which, according to WGME, slows the rate of cell death in the brain. If successful, the trials could lead to a new direction in the treatment of dementia.
Riluzole – active substance Trilussa and other similar drugs is a neuroprotective agent that alters the chemical path to the brain to prevent accumulation of glutamate – a neurotransmitter which is involved in the cellular dysfunction associated with neurodegenerative diseases. Since 1995 it has been used for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (LHC). However, the new version of the drug developed Biohaven Pharmaceuticals, just received FDA approval as a new mechanism for the treatment TANK.
Also there are serious reasons to believe that trout can help people with Alzheimer’s disease, as it helps in the treatment TANK, as between the mechanisms of cell death in both diseases is similar.
Despite the fact that a large part of the research of Alzheimer’s disease focused on detection and prevention, T2 Protect AD may also help doctors to develop new treatment. These studies may provide new way to control and reduce symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, even if they cannot be reversed.
“In the world, held many trials for the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease… and only some of them are aimed at people with dementia, says lead researcher Judith Heidebrink. – We really need to have therapy for people who already show symptoms, and also to protect the next generation from the symptoms”.
