MONTREAL | Hydro-Quebec is warning people against phone calls, fraudulent in the name of the corporation.
“The person who makes the call asks you to pay your bill immediately, otherwise the electricity service would be interrupted,” said Saturday the Hydro-Quebec press release.
However, the Crown corporation recently announced the discontinuation of interruptions for non-payment and the application of administration fees to the unpaid invoices, until further notice, due to the difficult economic situation caused by the pandemic COVID-19.
This is not the first time that scammers are targeting customers of Hydro-Québec. Last August, the company warned that the wrong people-meaning, were to pass to Hydro-Quebec and tried to snatch via text messages, of personal information to citizens.
In a text message, they gave a link on which to click, referring to the refund of the overpayment. This link leads to a site that looks similar to that of the electricity provider or to a site of Interac e-transfer.
