ST. JOHN’S | The prime minister of Newfoundland and Labrador said on Saturday that he had expelled Sherry Gambin-Walsh of his council of ministers after it was revealed to be targeted by an RCMP investigation, following a mandate of alleviating a breach of trust.
Dwight Ball said it had been informed of the warrant issued by the RCMP by the concerned Friday. Mrs Gambin-Walsh has been expelled and relieved of his ministerial functions on the field, said Mr. Ball in a press conference call, reported Saturday Globalnews.
Gambin-Walsh held the position of minister responsible for the Service, whose responsibilities will be entrusted now to the minister of Finance, Tom Osborne, said the prime minister Ball.
The prime minister has not disclosed the nature of the allegations against Ms. Gambin-Ealsh, merely to mention that no charges are laid formally.
This is an ongoing investigation, he added.
The member of parliament for the county of Placentia-St. Mary’s has not, however, been excluded from the liberal caucus, confirmed the prime minister, claiming to focus all his attention on the response of the province to the pandemic COVID-19.
