NHL draft: Guess those who have preceded Alexis Lafrenière…

Repêchage de la LNH: Devinez ceux qui ont précédé Alexis Lafrenière...

His name may not be pronounced in Montréal, while the cancellation of the next draft at the Bell Centre deprives them of a day dream. Anyway, the attacker Alexis Lafrenière could become only the 12th player from the QMJHL to be selected at the first rank. Here, in the form of riddles, the 11 players who have preceded him, nine attackers and two guards.

(A) We start with the most difficult. Just for fun… This guard was wearing the colors of the Rangers Drummondville at the junior level when he was drafted in 1968. Having participated in 299 games in the national hockey League, he has defended the cage of the Canadian and Quebec Nordiques. The Montreal native died of a heart attack in December 2006.

(B) The most recent player from the QMJHL to have been selected as the very first one is a European. It is also the only player from Europe to have been a first choice after you have evolved in the circuit Courteau. It does not give you neither the year nor the team had drafted, that would be too easy. Hint : he wore the colors of the Halifax Mooseheads during a season.

C) His team, with which it still evolves, has taken advantage of the lockout in 2004-2005 to win the lottery of the draft and select it. This training never regretted it, winning since the Stanley Cup three times (2009, 2016 and 2017).

(D) To his last season as a junior in 2012-2013, he scored 75 points, 30 less than his team-mate Jonathan Drouin with the Mooseheads. Drouin was drafted third overall in the same cuvée (2013).

(E) It is the last guardian of the QMJHL have been selected in the first row, in 2003. The former Screaming Eagles of Cape Breton has long evolved with the player “C”.

F) another alumnus of the Océanic of Rimouski, as Lafrenière and… this famous player “C”. His number has been retired by the organization which drafted in 1998.

(G) After a prolific stint with the Victoriaville Tigers, he was selected to the first row. No, this is not Phillip Danault, who was drafted 26th overall by the Chicago black hawks in 2011. To him, it was in 1993 by the Ottawa Senators.

H) – Drafted in the first rank by the Sabres of Buffalo in 1987, he has also played more than 100 games with the Montreal canadiens.

(I) his last year in juniors, he scored 282 points, including 133 goals, in 70 meetings of the regular season with the Neighboring Laval. Then, he has added 52 points in 14 playoff games.

(J) A group of quebec’s music bears his name. This former Royals of Cornwall was the first choice of the Winnipeg Jets in 1981.

(K) The director-general of the Canadian Sam Pollock has demonstrated cunning to select it in 1971 following a transaction with the Golden Seals of California.
