Unless things change in the next few hours, Monday's Legault government announcement will have no effect on QMJHL teams playing in areas now labeled “red”.
Two formations of the Courteau circuit are in the affected territories, namely the Remparts de Québec and the Armada de Blainville-Boisbriand.
These two formations will therefore be able to go on the road and move in areas which are not on maximum alert, just as they will be able to receive their opponents at their homes.
The regular season of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) should therefore take place, as planned, starting Friday, without game cancellations. The Remparts will receive a visit from the Victoriaville Tigres on Saturday, while the Armada will be in Sherbrooke to face the Phoenix on Friday.
Remember that no case has been reported in the Courteau circuit since the official opening of its training camps on August 30.
“We are very happy. We expected a case here and there, but we have nothing. It is often said that young people have been unruly since the start of the pandemic, but we must take our hat off to our people who have shown discipline from the start, ”said QMJHL communications director Maxime Blouin.
Even though Monday's press conference provided the broad outlines and there are still more details to be had, the fact that Premier François Legault confirmed that gymnasiums, sports centers and arenas remain open greatly pleased Hockey Quebec. . The practice of school sport also does not change from what it was in the orange zone.
“Hockey Quebec, on behalf of young people, is very happy to know that our hockey players will be able to continue their development and the practice of their sport”, mentioned the provincial federation on its Twitter account.
“As soon as we receive the specific guidelines for the red zone, we will communicate them to you. In order to keep our hockey active, we ask you to respect the rules & instructions and follow the requested game plan ”, we add in the same message.
Also note that the adult recreational leagues do not have to cease their activities at this time. Gyms also remain open.
