The court found four members of a gang of Shamil Basayev and Khattab guilty in attack on military personnel in 1999 and sentenced to terms ranging from 13 to 19 years of strict regime. This was reported on the website of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
Ruslan Ajibraimova, Damir Muhetdinov, Marat Dautov and Batyrbek Bakiev found guilty under article 209 (participation in a gang), article 279 (active participation in armed mutiny) and article 317 (attempt on the life of soldiers) of the criminal code. Ajibraimova sentenced to 13 years, Muhutdinov 14, Dautov – 16, and Bakiyev to 19 years in prison.
According to the court, the defendants joined the gang in July 1999 and soon took part in the attack on the military.
In August-September 1999 militants under the command of Basayev and Khattab invaded Dagestan to create on its territory an independent Islamic state. According to official data, in clashes with the bandits was lost 279 soldiers and officers of the Federal troops, another 800 were injured.
In the case of the attack on troops in the international and Federal wanted list was announced on 28 people.
In January of this year, the Supreme court of Chechnya has sentenced a member of a gang of Basayev Ruslan Bataev. For an armed attack on the military in 1999, he has 14.5 years in a penal colony.
Concerning seven, including Basayev, the prosecution terminated in connection with the deaths. Currently, the case involved three participants in the attack.
