Olympic recap: Pavan, Humana-Paredes score another win in Tokyo

Melissa Humana-Paredes of Toronto and Sarah Pavan of Kitchener, Ontario, improved to 2-0 in preliminary round competition with a 2-0 win over Germans Julia Sude and Karla Borger.

The Canadian duo has yet to throw a set in the beach volleyball tournament at the Tokyo Olympics.

In boxing, Montreal’s Caroline Veyre achieved a convincing 5-0 victory over Croatia’s Nikolina Cacic in the women’s featherweight round of 16. Veyre will face Irma Testa of Italy in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

In diving, Vincent Riendeau and Nathan Zsombor-Murray, both from Pointe-Claire, Que., Were fifth on the men’s synchronized 10-meter platform.

Tyler Mislawchuk of Oak Bluff, Man., Was the best Canadian in the men’s triathlon, finishing 15th.

And in softball, Canada defeated Italy 8-1. Next up for Canada is the bronze medal game on Tuesday.
