Residents of the island of Bougainville, located in the Pacific ocean, held a referendum and almost unanimously voted for independence from Papua New Guinea. The authorities repeatedly delayed the vote, but it didn’t help.
The decision on granting greater autonomy to the island was made an absolute majority of votes. According to the results of 181 counting thousands of ballots, almost 177 thousand voters voted for independence.
