One World-Together At Home: ensemble pour la cause

It happened a few times over the last few decades : international artists decide to join together and offer a great benefit concert. We know the formula. We know what to expect. But the one that we used tonight, One World : Together At Home, promises to be different. In large part, because it will benefit singers in confinement, each in and of itself. Waiting to see Céline Dion and company push the score in their living room, here are a few great shows-events that marked the spirits.

Organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, Live Aid has pushed the shows income to the next level. Held simultaneously in Philadelphia and London, this double concert aimed to collect funds to relieve the famine in Ethiopia brought together a host of big – or even huge — big names, including David Bowie, Madonna, U2, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Tina Turner, Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, The Who, The Beach Boys and Bob Dylan.

To review the benefits of all these stars, go for a walk on the side of YouTube. They are almost all grouped under a single official channel (Live Aid). Seeing Freddie Mercury to raise the crowd with We Will Rock You, Bohemian Rhapsody and We Are The Champions, you will understand why the performance of the Queen is entered in the history.

Organized by Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, the tribute concert to Freddie Mercury, who died the previous year, was to raise funds to support the fight against aids. More than 70,000 people in Wembley stadium London, have applauded the benefits of Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, Def Leppard, Robert Plan, Elton John, David Bowie, Van Halen, and Black Sabbath. However, it was George Michael who stole the show by offering a reinterpretation of the passion of Somebody to Love, as you can see on YouTube, by visiting the official channel of the band Queen.

Twenty years after Live Aid, the artists came together again to offer a series of concerts simultaneously in each of the member countries of the G8. This time the focus was less tangible. In the absence of harvest under, we wanted to encourage the leaders of the richest countries in the world to erase the debt of the poorest countries.

Once again, the big names have responded to this, beginning with U2, Pink Floyd, Madonna, Paul McCartney, Coldplay, Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Bon Jovi, Kanye West, Stevie Wonder, Shakira, Green Day, Elton John and Alicia Keys. In Canada, the concert, held in Barrie, north of Toronto. Some Quebecers attended, including Simple Plan, Les Trois Accords, Sam Roberts, DobaCaracol and Celine Dion via satellite.

The YouTube channel Live 8 brings together the best performances of shows, including Numb Linkin Park and Jay-Z, I Got You (I Feel Good) James Brown and Everybody Hurts by REM.

LIVE EARTH (July 7, 2007)

Organized in part by Al Gore, this event is intended to raise awareness about the climate change brought together more than 150 artists spread over 11 stages across the planet, including Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Genesis, Rihanna, The Police, Enrique Iglesias, Shakira, Foo Fighters, Beastie Boys and Lenny Kravitz. Madonna has entered into the celebrations, live from London in making up the temperature with La Isla Bonita and Hung Up.


One World : Together At Home“>

Céline Dion will attend the show One World : Together At Home

Because measures of social distancing, this appointment will not take place in a stadium, but rather in each of the houses of the participating artists. To celebrate the workers of the medical field who are fighting the pandemic COVID-19, this special broadcast hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert will be broadcast simultaneously in several countries as early as 20 h. In Quebec, we will be able to watch it on VRAK, CTV and TSN. It will bring together, among others, Céline Dion, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Shawn Mendes, Billie Eilish, Chris Martin, Eddie Vedder, John Legend, Maluma, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Lizzo, Elton John, Pharrell Williams and Camila Cabello.

This event on television, will be preceded by a block of six hours broadcast on the internet (via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc) which will include appearances by hundreds of other stars, including Michael Bublé, Sheryl Crow, Christine and the Queens, Lady Antebellum and Adam Lambert.
