Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals will fly soon to the “city bubble” of Toronto to compete in the playoffs. For the return, the number 8 has the desire to win, but also a fun way to practice his sport.
The big Russian was able to train for the first time with all his teammates Monday, with the start of phase 3 of the plan of return to play of the national hockey League.
“These are exciting times,” said the captain in a video conference of the Capitals. “Hockey has failed in all the world, and that we missed to spend time together.”
Even with the circumstances, the limitations of the “bubble” and spending nearly two months without his family, Ovechkin believes that the experience will be fun. He was also very excited to train there and to spend good moments with his teammates.
After four months of uncertainty, “Ovi” is especially happy to be able to fight for another Stanley cup, he who has already tasted the ultimate triumph in 2018.
“All the players want to play for the cup, and now we have this opportunity to return and perhaps to win,” he said. We have a good group of guys, guys experienced and talented.”
In a good leader of men, Ovechkin recalled to reporters, his teammates had kept in shape during the containment, and that many had jumped on the ice. Two weeks of collective training will, however, be well to find the rhythm.
Because of their ranking in 2019-2020, the “Caps” will not pass through the stage of the qualification round. They will, however, hand in facing the Tampa Bay Lightning, Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins to determine the order of the seedings for the knock-out tournament.
