Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted to the state Duma a draft about suspension of the Russian Federation the Treaty between the USSR and the USA on the elimination of intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles. This was announced by the Chairman of the lower house of Parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin, RIA “Novosti”.

“Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma a Federal bill on suspending the Russian Federation the Treaty between the USSR and the USA on the elimination of intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles”, – told to journalists the speaker of the state Duma Volodin.

According to him, within the hour, the Council of the state Duma will consider the bill, to determine the terms of consideration of the document.

In accordance with the bill, the President is entitled to take a decision on the renewal of the agreement.

Recall, February 1 President of the United States Donald trump and Secretary of state Michael Pompeo has announced that Washington will suspend execution of obligations under the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles (INF Treaty), from 2 February. Six months later, the US will cease to be a member, as I believe that Russia violates the Treaty. In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin February 2, announced the suspension of Moscow’s participation in the agreement. He instructed not to initiate negotiations with Washington on this issue. According to him, the us itself needs to Mature to conduct equal and meaningful dialogue.

The Treaty on the elimination of intermediate (1000-5500 km) and smaller (500 to 1000 km) range – the agreement between the USSR and the U.S. signed in 1987. In that document the parties undertook to destroy all systems of ballistic and cruise land-based missiles with the specified range and in the future produce, not to test and not to deploy them.
