It turned out that women who practiced breast-feeding for at least six months, had the best performance of the cardiovascular system.
Certainly, breastfeeding has great benefits for the baby’s health, compared to artificial. But not only that. Breast-feeding improves the health of the mother. For example, after birth promotes better uterine contractions, and reduces the risk of breast cancer. It turns out that he has another beneficial effect – it improves the mother’s heart, informs Rus.Media.
New research on the benefits of breastfeeding to the health of women scientists presented at the 67th meeting of the American College of cardiology. It turned out that women who breast-feed, showed better cardiovascular system than those who were not fed at all.
The study involved 678 women in Michigan between 1998 and 2004. First I checked women during pregnancy, and then after 7-15 years. Doctors measured blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, as well as the diameter and thickness of the carotid artery. These factors are taken into account by cardiologists when assessing risk of heart disease.
It turned out that women who practiced breast-feeding for at least six months, had the best performance of the cardiovascular system, compared with those not fed at all. And despite the fact that the age of nursing at the time of the study were older than participants who did not practice HS. Of course, this was only the case if blood pressure mothers had normal levels.
There are two versions of why breast-feeding is “cardioprotective” action. First, this occurs due to release of oxytocin, which reduces pressure. Second, there is a hypothesis that lactation is able to counteract some of the metabolic changes in the body.
According to the study, women are encouraged to breast feed the baby at least six months to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
