The Romanian Simona Halep has defeated the French Caroline Garcia in two sets of 6-4 and 6-2, Saturday in the quarter-final of the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

The defending champion of the event will face off in the square as the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, tombeuse of the Spanish Garbine Muguruza.

Second-seeded, Halep needed 71 minutes to dispose of the 21st racket of the WTA tour, and this, even if it was dominated 4-1 in aces. In contrast, the winner has made three breaks in seven occasions and did not concede his service only once. The holder of 15 titles in his career on the professional circuit has committed four double faults, compared to three for Garcia.

This last has laid hands on 49 of 116 points played.

    A long battle

In the other duel of the quarters of the day, Svitolina put 2 h 08 min to come to the end of the fourth favorite. Despite six double faults – two more times as the player hispanic – and a success rate of 51 % on its first service, it has had the top 92-85 to the total number of points removed. The fifth head of series has also been successful seven breaks in 12 opportunities.

Muguruza has taken the opponent’s service six times in nine opportunities.
