Romeo and Juliet live in Saguenay!

Roméo et Juliette vivent à Saguenay!

A citizen of the sector of Jonquière has found an original way to see his woman with Alzheimer’s disease who is hospitalized at the CHSLD of the golden Years.

At the age of 81, Ghislain Root, used the platform lift to get up to the first floor to the outside of the building. He was able to see his wife for the first time in five weeks.

“It’s like Romeo and Juliet, but instead of climbing up in a tree, I had a lift, was told by Mr. Root. At the beginning, I told myself that I would take a scale, but they would have come to me to unload. And here, I thought a monte-charge.”

When he was able to see his wife, the moment was of an extreme tenderness. “I wanted to see it through the window. She recognized me. We glued the head in the window every two. I was crying, told the new Romeo by cutting back a few sobs.

The equipment was loaned free of charge by the branch, Lou-Tec, de Jonquière. The employees were affected by the request of Mr. Root, who was yet willing to pay.

“He was afraid that she might forget, explained an employee of the business, Marc-André Giroux. This is the sentence that surprised me the most. It came out natural on his part. This is proof that love has no age. It is beautiful to see.”

The platform lift, which has remained on-site for a week, was eventually withdrawn. The CIUSSS of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean has invoked reasons of insurance to ask for Ghislain Root to remove the equipment.

In return, the authorities have allowed the octogenarian to visit his wife with all the protection measures required.

The couple has been married for 50 years and has two children. “I’ve always loved. It’s been 50 years. I do not let go,” said Ghislain Root, the eyes in the water.
