Contrary to what had initially been indicated, it will not be possible to return to the schools, colleges or universities to recover the equipment or personal effects by mid-April.
This is what was stated by the minister of Education, Jean-François Roberge in the end of the day Wednesday. “Public Health has recommended us to postpone any operation aiming to enable the recovery of materials in all schools and higher education”, has he said on Twitter.
“I ask all responsible institutions to immediately suspend the steps taken to make such operations possible, and until further order. Although I am aware of the drawbacks for many parents and staff members, health and safety shall be the paramount consideration”, he added.
The decision to allow a return to retrieve school materials, announced last week, had attracted criticism in the past few days.
This operation had been suspended for the regions of Montreal and the eastern Townships most severely affected by the crisis of the COVID-19.
