Series Canada vs Penguins: a unanimous choice

Série Canadien vs Penguins: un choix unanime

The Journal surveyed six journalists from Pittsburgh for the series between the CH and the Penguins

In the taverns of Montreal, Pittsburgh, Moscow or Kathmandu, there is the same belief. The Penguins will win the round of the qualifications against the Canadian. It is the prediction the most popular.

If, in Montreal, only Réjean Tremblay and Denis Poissant have predicted the elimination of the Penguins, the verdict is unanimous among the journalists of Pittsburgh. The band in Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin will eliminate the Habs.

The Journal took the pulse of six reporters assigned to the daily coverage of the Penguins. From this small survey, it appears a few lines. The team of Mike Sullivan emerges as the winner in four games, Malkin will be the key player, and Jared McCann will represent the hidden card.

Dave Molinari

(DK Pittsburgh Sports)

  • Winner : Penguins in four
  • The key player : Jake Guentzel

“Rather than opting for an easy choice such as Sidney Crosby or Carey Price, I selected Jake Guentzel. One reason : he has scored five goals in eight shots since his debut in the NHL against Price. Guentzel has not played since 30 December, but he is healed completely from his injury and he knows a good camp. ”

  • The hidden card : Nick Suzuki

“In my eyes, the center of the 2nd trio of the Canadian could become the hidden card of this series. If the Habs want to have a slightest chance to win this series, Claude Julien will need an excellent performance from its second centre in its confrontation against Malkin. “

Seth Rorabaugh

(Pittsburgh Tribune-Review)

  • Winner : Penguins in four

“The Canadian has the talent and the youth to steal a game, but the Penguins have the experience and more talent. ”

  • The key player : Matt Murray

“Murray has already won twice for the Stanley Cup, but he will play big in the next series. He does not want to lose his position for the benefit of Tristan Jarry. ”

  • The hidden card : Jared McCann

“A good third center, and a place on the first unit in the numerical superiority. “

Rob Rossi

(The Athletic)

  • Winner : Penguins in four
  • The key player : Evgeni Malkin

“He is healthy, motivated and he wants to win. Geno has also led to forget the disappointment of the year 2018-2019. ”

  • The hidden card : Jared McCann

“As a 3rd center, McCann will benefit from the confrontations advantageous. He also played in numerical superiority. “

Josh Yohe

(The Athletic)

  • Winner : Penguins in four

“They have too much raw talent to Montreal. They are in health. The return of Guentzel will make a difference and Malkin will be hyper motivated. ”

  • The key player : Evgeni Malkin

“Crosby may not be 100 % for this series and we know that Malkin is always better when Sidney is magané. ”

  • The hidden card : Jared McCann

“The third centre is still an important player for the Penguins in the playoffs. Nick Bonino and Jordan Staal have had success in the past. “

Mike DeFabo

(Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

  • Winner : Penguins in four
  • The key player : Evgeni Malkin

“He is very good at the camp. ”

  • The hidden card : Jared McCann

“It has gone through an immense lethargy in the end of the season, but it would benefit from the presence of a veteran like Patrick Marleau on the left wing. “

Dejan Kovacevic

(DK Pittsburgh Sports)

  • Winner : Penguins in three

“They will win in three, but if they were to lose the first game, they will prevail in five. We have never seen a first game of the series, so after a break of more than four months. ”

  • The key player : Evgeni Malkin

“Malkin plays in a way surreal since the beginning of the camp. Since I covers the activities of the Penguins, I have rarely seen so much motivated. ”

  • The hidden card : John Marino

“Marino would have been a finalist for the Calder trophy this season if he had not received a washer on one eye. I like his calm and his skills. “
