Stuffed cabbage in Romanian: the original recipe familiar dishes

This recipe came out very tasty and juicy stuffed cabbage.

Romanian dish called Sarmale. It can be made with pork, Turkey, beef or a mixture of these types of meat. You can even cook them with sauerkraut and bacon, informs Rus.Media.


For stuffed cabbage:

  • 1 head of fresh cabbage
  • 50 grams of rice
  • 150 g of any stuffing
  • 1 onion
  • 1 carrot
  • vegetable oil
  • 100 ml of water
  • salt, pepper

For “coats”:

  • 30 grams of sour cream
  • 100 grams of cheese
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 3-4 cloves of garlic
  • dill and parsley
  • salt, pepper


  1. Put the cabbage for 5-10 minutes in a microwave (power about 900 W), and then under a stream of cold water. Then the sheets can be easily separated.
  2. Rice is boiled until soft.
  3. Onion and carrot fry.
  4. The cooled rice and fried mixed with minced meat, salt, pepper to taste.
  5. Roll the cabbage rolls and put on baking tray, lightly oiled.
  6. Add the water, cover the pan with foil and put in oven preheated to 200 °C for 30 minutes.
  7. For “coats”: finely chop tomatoes, grate cheese, grind herbs, garlic passed through the press.
  8. Add sour cream, salt and pepper, stir.
  9. Spread the coat evenly over the surface of cabbage, even out and bake for another 10-15 minutes.
