The candidate for the position of U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan said that the opposition to the construction of the pipeline “Nord stream — 2” is one of the priorities of the United States.
RIA Novostyam transfers TASS, the statement was made at a hearing of the Senate Committee on foreign Affairs, devoted to the consideration of his candidacy.
“Our primary task is to counter the “Nord stream — 2,” said Sullivan.
According to him, the project will provide Russia with a “huge lever of pressure” on Ukraine.
He stressed that Washington wants to help Ukraine, including through a possible shutdown of the SP-2.
On 30 October, the Danish energy Agency granted Nord Stream 2 permission for laying of “Nord stream — 2”.
Earlier the us Congress proposed to impose sanctions against the pipe-lay vessels and foreign entities that play a key role in the construction of the pipeline.
