When will professors and teachers be able to get vaccinated against the coronavirus? “It is impossible to say the precise day. The dynamics are engaged (…) It will necessarily take place during the first semester“, explained Jean-Michel Blanquer.
“The main criterion for vaccination remains that of age, first of all that of retirement. When we arrive at that of the working population, teachers will be among the first concerned,” said the minister.
Without giving further details on the date, the Minister of National Education explains having “acquired the conviction that as soon as one respects the barrier gestures and that one wears the masks, we manage to contain the contamination“, during the Grand Jury RTL, Le Figaro, LCI. A decline ? Jean-Michel Blanquer initially mentioned a goal of launching vaccination for teachers for the month of “March”.
For Philippe Vincent, of SNPDEN, the first union of school leaders, vaccination represents “absolute hope”. “It seems to us to be the surest guarantee to prevent, in the long term, an increase in the number of cases and therefore the closure of establishments that we want to avoid at all costs, “he said.
The vaccine against the coronavirus is particularly expected in the faculty. “Many teachers want to be vaccinated quickly because they are in contact with the population – young people – who will be vaccinated last“, noted Jean-Rémi Girard, president of Snalc (secondary union).
An acceleration of the vaccination campaign
Criticized for the slowness of the vaccination, the executive had already made a turning point by opening the vaccination to all healthcare professionals over 50 or presenting weaknesses, in addition to residents and staff at risk in nursing homes, who remain a priority.
In order to speed up operations, in a context of limited vaccines, the government has also decided, like other countries, delay the injection of the 2nd dose of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine for up to six weeks, to allow the number of first bites to be multiplied now.
France was approaching, on January 7, a total of 50,000 people who received the injection, while the government had set itself the objective of completing the first phase of vaccination in nursing homes, which concerns around 1 million people, during January and February.
