Carey Price has started to train alone last Wednesday.
The custodian of the Canadian Carey Price acknowledged that his lower-body injury took more time than expected to heal, but it expects a return to the game in the near future.
In the meantime, the Canadian has claimed the goalkeeper of the Panthers of the Florida Antti Niemi to tie. 34-year-old Niemi started the season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. It had been claimed for the first time by the Panthers.
Price had returned to train alone last Wednesday. It has, however, decided Tuesday that it was best to take a few days of rest in addition to allow the wound to heal.
“It takes a little more time than anticipated due to the nature of my position, explained Price. I want to be sure of 100 % of my capabilities when I get back. I’ll take my time, but this will not take long.
“It did not improve. It was stagnant. I’m going to take two days rest and we’ll re-evaluate my situation afterwards.
“We expected an absence of about two weeks, but this will eventually be a little longer. “
The director general of the Canadian, Marc Bergevin, also met with reporters and reiterated the remarks of her guardian. “I have no idea, but it should not be long, he responded when he was questioned about the time of the return-to-play of Price. As long as he has not rejoined the team for a training session, there will be no really timeline. But it should not be long. “
30-year-old, Price said that he was wounded in the lower body during the warm-up match from November 2, to face the Wild in Minnesota. He has, however, participated in this meeting, a reverse of 6-3. The team was announced the next day that he was wounded in the lower body.
“When your body is warmed up and you feel the adrenaline rush before a game, you don’t often well before the next day, when you’re cold,” explained Price.
Price has also insisted that the injury current was not related to his old injury.
Niemi instead of Montoya
In respect of the acquisition of Niemi, Bergevin has said that the goal was rather to compensate for the absence of the guard reservist Al Montoya, who suffers from a concussion.
“At this time, we had two young guards in Charlie and Zach [Fucale]. In the case of Montoya, a concussion, it may take two weeks, two months, three months. I have no idea, said Bergevin. We had the chance to go and look for a goalkeeper of experience. If Charlie is hurt, it would fall to Zach and [Michael] McNiven.
“It is especially for the situation with Al. We had the opportunity to protect the position of the organization in front of the net. “
Niemi has made a name in the NHL with the Chicago black hawks, with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2010. Bergevin and the ‘ goalie coach Stéphane Waite were part of the organization of the Blackhawks.
The Finn has since fallen out of the cloud. His contract was bought out by the Dallas Stars at the end of the last campaign. In five outings this season with the Penguins and the Panthers, he has a record of 0-4-0 with an average of 6,74 and an efficiency rate of, 822.
“It is no longer the goalkeeper he was there seven or eight years, when it won the cup in Chicago, has recognized Bergevin. But he is a goalkeeper of experience and he has faced this year, three times as Tampa Bay and once in Chicago, who have offensive and fearsome. Stéphane knows well since the weather in Chicago. It adds depth and becomes a lifeline because of the uncertainty surrounding Montoya. “
