“In October of this year, criminal proceedings about the customers and the organizers of the murder of an Elder transferred to DBR in connection with the expiration of powers of the investigator as per a recommendation from the estate planning attorney assisting in the victim.

When considering recently served V. P. Elder, mother of the murdered journalist, the statements about her personal reception Genprokuror R. Ryaboshapka apparently afraid that the GPU will be personally responsible for the case as the body that sushestvuet supervision of DBR.

In this regard, today in Genprokurature the issue of the abolition of the lawful order of the Prosecutor on the establishment of jurisdiction over the DBR and return the case to the Prosecutor of Kyiv, which has the authority to investigate the matter even as much as 5 days!

If this decision is made, we will regard it as a crime and to respond to the filing salenia about the crime. In the end, this decision prosecutors will go to jail along with Stolarchuk, which sent the case to Odessa.

And it is obvious that to take the grieving mother Ryaboshapka not going to.

Cowardice or stupidity? Or both?” — said Artem Zakharov.

The monitoring mission of the UN on human rights in Ukraine urged to investigate effectively all cases of murders of Ukrainian journalists and activists, cases which drag on over the years. Material about the situation of justice in Ukraine published on the website of the office of the UN high Commissioner for human rights.

The article remembered the most resonant crimes. This is a shot in 2015, 45-year-old journalist and writer Oles Elder in Kiev, blasting in the car on city streets 44-year-old Pavlo Sheremeta, the attack in Kherson 33-year-old activist Catherine Gandzyuk and strange death under the Kharkiv environmental activist Nikolai bulls. 23-year-old man was found hanged in 2018 in the forest.

Of the recent cases, the UN has called the murder of Cherkasy journalist Vadim Komarov. In may 2019 55-year-old man was severely beaten, and after 45 days in a coma he died.

“I have no doubt that he was killed because of his work of a journalist.

It is very sad that the investigation of the murder does not give any results” — quoted in the UN’s words, a lawyer from Cherkassy Valeria Makeeva.

In the monitoring mission stated that the trial of the murders are continuing, but progress has been extremely slow and without visible results.

So, in the case of the murder of an Elder of the investigation lasted almost three years. But his killers are still at large.

The staff of human rights monitor litigation across the country, visiting on average 10 hearings per week.

Although we see that Ukraine is implementing a number of reforms of the judicial system, we do not see addressing the root problems hindering effective investigations and fair hearings independent courts.

As a consequence, unfortunately, there remains a significant gap in accountability“, — said the head of the UN Monitoring mission on human rights in Ukraine, Matilda Bogner.

The UN supported judicial and legal reforms in the country and recommended that the state provide accountability.
