Three québec financial institutions have joined the movement to boycott advertising from Facebook calling for a stricter control of the messages that are racist and hateful.
The Mouvement Desjardins, the National Bank and the Laurentian Bank will not place advertising on Facebook until the end of July.
“Desjardins has reaffirmed several times its commitment to the core values of diversity and inclusion. We have therefore taken the decision to discontinue our advertising placements on Facebook and Instagram for the month of July”, said Thursday a spokesman for the financial co-operative, Jean-Benoît Turcotti.
Solicited by The Journal, insurers iA financial Group and The Capital did not express their intentions on this subject.
On Wednesday, the five largest banks in the country had indicated that they were participating in the boycott.
The movement #stophateforprofit has been launched in the United States by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Anti-Defamation League, organizations of defense of the Afro-Americans and the fight against anti-semitism.
In the world, more than 400 major companies have announced their participation in the boycott, up here.
