The head coach of the Montreal canadiens, Claude Julien, has reached the sixties, this Thursday.
To celebrate his birthday, here’s a retrospective of his career.
Prior to working behind a bench, Julien has put on the skates. The native of Blind River, Ontario, moved to the position of defender. Never drafted into the national hockey League (NHL), Julien played his first seasons with the professionals in the international hockey League and in the League, central hockey. In 1984-1985, he finally reaches the NHL. He played one game with the defunct Quebec Nordiques. It will also 13 parties with the formation of the Standby Capital for the following season. He has amassed one assist, on a goal by Robert Picard in the face to the Canadian on January 29, 1986.
However, it will be his only moments in the best hockey league in the world, who continue primarily his career in the american hockey League, and this, until 1991-1992.
Julien began his career as head coach with the Olympic Hull, in the League of the Quebec major junior hockey. He has been at the helm of the team of the Outaouais region from 1996 to 2000. He has won the Memorial cup in 1997. Before the start of the 2000-2001 season, Julien was hired as the driver of the formation of the Canadian, the Bulldogs of Hamilton. He remained there two seasons and a half, now, a sheet of 98-77-19 in 194 meetings.
The first stay with the CH
In the heart of the 2002-2003 campaign, the leadership of the Canadian decides to put the door Michel Therrien and replaced by Julien. Ontario does not, however, to straighten out the bar and the CH misses the playoffs. The following year, Julian leads his team in the playoffs, but the Canadian is eliminated by the Tampa Bay Lightning. After the lockout year (2004-2005), Julian begins its third campaign in Montreal. It is, however, terminated after 41 parties. During his first stay with the CH, Julien has amassed 72 victories and suffered 68 losses, and 17 draws.
The Devils and Bruins
During the summer of 2006, Julien was hired by the New Jersey Devils. So that there remain only three games in the regular season, 2006-2007, he is shown the door, and this, even if his team qualified for the playoffs.
That’s not a problem, Julien falls back again on its feet and the following summer, he earned the position of head coach of the Boston Bruins. It will be his longest association, having been in post for nearly 10 seasons. He has been able to bring the team from Massachusetts in the firmament, while the Cubs have raised the Stanley cup in 2011. He has also won the Trophée Jack-Adams for the 2008-2009 season. On February 7, 2017, Julien was fired, while the team is on the verge of missing the playoffs for a third consecutive season.
The back with the CH
Once again, Julien will not have been unemployed a long time. The DG of the Canadian, Marc Bergevin, he made an offer on 14 February 2017. Therefore, Julien comes in succession to Therrien for a second time.
This year, the Blue-White-Red was able to take part in the dance of spring, but is made to show the output in the first round. Since then, the Canadian has missed the playoffs during the last two seasons, in the process of suffering the same fate in 2019-2020.
In 259 games since his return to the quebec metropolis, he has known the victory 120 times, lost in regulation time to 108 times and suffered defeat in extra time 21 times.
