The concern of Dan Bigras disappears

L’inquiétude de Dan Bigras disparaît

Dan Bigras is in great shape. The risk that the cancer that struck him to come back the haunt are less high.

“It is going well. I’m not really worried”, he confided during an interview.

The author, composer and interpreter is in remission since July of 2018.

“I passed my test two years ago and it’s going very, very well. My oncologist explained to me that 81 % of the cases of relapse are arrived inside of two years. It’s going well and I now find myself in the very small percentages of relapse. I’m not really worried,” said the artist of 62 years.

He has even resumed training in order to regain the form that he had lost because of the disease. He trains in his home, hitting a training bag for boxing.

“There is a small detail that I had forgotten. I realized that I had aged. I’ll have to make a little bag before going to the dojo to do the workout of four rounds with buddies. It is my pride that speaks”, he confided, laughing.

Dan Bigras has spent two days at the Théâtre Petit-Champlain, last week, to record his 14th album in front of public.

An opus on which one will find its success and also four new songs. Securities that are more blues and approaching what he has done for 18 years, in the bars, with the formation of Heavy Feather.

The idea of making a recording in the show started to take shape three years ago, with the concerts he gave with drummer Louis Won, the bassist Jean-François Déry and violinist Andrée-Anne Tremblay.

“Usually, on my recordings, I play all instruments, but with them, there is an energy of the sacrament. This is something that is indescribable and it is for this reason that I decided to record an album in the show. It rocke and it was important to capture all of it on an album,” explained Dan Bigras.

A madness

He has chosen to save everything at the Théâtre Petit-Champlain because of the atmosphere that is present when he plays in the small auditorium of the Old Capital.

“I don’t know what is going on. There is a madness that ignites it every time we go there. There are two places where this is more crazy than usual, either to the room Odyssée in Gatineau, and the Petit-Champlain. I started in Quebec city and there is also a special attachment for that reason,” he said.

This new album, according to his wishes, should be launched in mid-April.

After the movies he has made, his roles on tv and in the movies, the projects of narration and animation to the radio, Dan Bigras is first and foremost a musician.

“I like to do all kinds of stuff and I enjoy doing all of these things, but the music and the blues, it is my base. I always have to go back there. I am an ostia of a musician, and this is what I am at the base. It is my identity,” he said, with all the color that it is known for.

Dan Bigras will return to Quebec on November 5, 2020, at the Centre d’art La Chapelle, and on January 22, 2020, at the Théâtre Petit-Champlain. The dates of his performances are on-line and its page on Facebook.
