Those dreaded words – from the diary of Vladislav Mikosha, the front-line operator. They shot the footage and his memories formed the basis of the documentary. The authors of the project “Crimea. Spring 44 of the first” decided to show the war through the eyes of a man who experienced it all personally, walked miles with the camera at the ready.

1944 to the Wehrmacht was disastrous: the enemy were pressing on all fronts. On the liberation of Crimea Soviet Union dumped about half a million people, hundreds of tanks and aircraft.

“Starting the offensive in the Crimea, we have achieved what we in the infantry artillery, tanks, we had two-, five – and ten-fold superiority. In aviation we had an eightfold superiority”, – said the candidate of historical Sciences, Professor Valentin Runov.

The Germans left on the Peninsula more than 200 thousand people. Generals of the Wehrmacht awaited the advance of the red Army. But Soviet commanders outsmarted them as of General Wrangel in 1920.

“Everything was decided in the Sivash and the Perekop under three days. By 10 April, the German defense of the Crimea fell, had already taken place by the order to retreat,” – said the candidate of historical Sciences Alexey Isaev.

Tanks, infantry, artillery fire – the red army offensive was so swift that the retreat of the enemy was more like a rout. Wehrmacht soldiers throwing equipment, wounded comrades. And German, and Soviet soldiers tried to Sevastopol. The key stage of the Crimean operation was the assault on the Sapun mountain.

“The Germans came to their fortifications and hid behind them. And there were 72 thousand people in a small area. Bunkers had a lot more than a hundred just on the first line. And, of course, advanced Soviet units were not able to take these fortifications immediately,” said military historian, candidate of philosophical Sciences Ilya Moshensky.

The second attempt was preparing for two weeks. During this time the Red army liberated almost all of the Crimean city of Armyansk, Kerch, Dzhankoy, Simferopol, Evpatoria. Under the Germans was only Sevastopol and dominating him Sapun-mountain.
