The Côte-Nord region of the province where the decline in population has been the fastest over the past three years, according to the Institut de la statistique du Québec.
Two thousand people have left the North Shore from 2016 to 2019.
The first of July 2019, 90 000 North Coastal inhabited the region. The North Shore has become the only region of the province where all of its MRC have lost residents over the past three years.
The Haute-Côte-Nord has the highest rate of decay of the Quebec.

In Quebec, among the cities with the decay fastest during this period, Port-Cartier is at the top, followed by Sainte-Anne-des-Monts in the Gaspé.
Baie-Comeau is placed in the 3rd position.
This is why the mayor is working with the University of Quebec in Rimouski to create a pavilion university in his city. “Roughly three-quarters of young people (…) do not come back in the region. It is major, such as statistics”, if the alarm the mayor Yves Montigny.
