In Moscow opened the 41-th Moscow international film festival. Like last year, it takes place in April: the organizers decided to change the season and turned the festival from a summer in spring. MIFF is one of the world’s oldest film festivals. It was first held in 1935, the Chairman of the jury, then, was the famous Director Sergei Eisenstein. Regular event of the festival was in 1959.
This year the jury of the main competition was headed by well-known South Korean Director Kim Ki-Duk. Also during the festival there are competitions of documentary and short films, as well as various out-of-competition program and special projects devoted to Cinematography, French, Italian, Hungarian and Turkish cinema.
The festival opens with a screening of “the Emperor of Paris” by French Director Jean-Francois richer. The picture tells about life of the French criminal of the nineteenth century by eugène françois Vidocq, played by Vincent Cassel. Vidocq has repeatedly found himself in prison, changing one profession after another, until in the end did not find himself in the police service. This real historical character, he founded and headed the first-ever national security division, where he worked for twenty years, after which he became a private detective.
As reported in the Directorate of the festival, the festival will also see the best Russian films of recent years and the most interesting brands – both domestic and foreign.
The opening ceremony of the Moscow international film festival traditionally takes place in the theater “Russia” (former cinema “Pushkin”). Here took place the procession of guests on the red carpet. The stars came out in sensual outfits.
A few hours before the opening of the festival nearby there was a press briefing by the President of the festival Nikita Mikhalkov.
In the main competition will feature 13 films, including three works by Russian Directors: “the Epidemic. Bongosero,” Pavel Kostomarov, “me the sun doesn’t set” Liubov Borisova and “Sunday” Svetlana Proskurina.
One of the main events of the festival this year will be a display of the final part of “the Avengers”: the festival will be a separate section devoted to the popular media franchise, which will show all the parts. Note that on the eve of the Russian office of Disney canceled press screenings of the final “Avengers” in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Presumably, the cause was a leak in the Network of clips from key scenes of the film. To see the long-awaited premiere at MIFF can only holders of invitations from Disney, mobile phones for the duration of the session, the audience will be taken. World premiere of the film “the Avengers: Finale” is scheduled for April 24. In Russia the film will be released five days later.
