For the second time in less than two month, an electrical failure disabled the ferry F.-A.-Gauthier right in the middle of the river Saint-Laurent, on Saturday night, with more than 200 passengers on board.
The vessel, which was heading toward Matane leaving from Baie-Comeau, crashed around 19: 30 after an electrical issue caused the momentary arrest of the engine, explained the spokesperson for the Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ), Maryse Brodeur.
The ferry was located about 4 kilometers from its destination at the time of the incident.
He was carrying 217 passengers and 98 vehicles.
“Two of the four thrusters are returned to their power 45 minutes later,” said Ms. Brodeur.
The vessel arrived at the dock with about 2: 30 hours late.
At the end of the evening, the STQ confirmed to the Newspaper that all the engines had regained their power, and that the ferry F. A.-Gauthier will resume the service as soon as Sunday.
Not the first time
On the 1st of July, the F. A.-Gauthier was crashed in similar circumstances. More than 200 passengers had to wait off the coast of Matane for 6 hours. The ferry service had been interrupted for almost three days.
