The father and coach of world champion of the light weights in the UFC, Khabib Nurmagomedov is in a coma.
Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov had initially been hospitalized for pneumonia at the end of April, in Dagestan. The state of health of the man, 57-year-old deteriorated and he was transported to a hospital in Moscow last week, as reported Wednesday, the Russian media RT.
Khabib Nurmagomedov has not confirmed the information.
Soon after I heard the news, the UFC president, Dana White, responded by way of a press release.
“Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov is a true artist of the martial arts who lives in the pride, honor and respect. He has instilled the same values in his boy, the world champion Khabib, at a young age and has always been by his side throughout his career. I know Khabib is close to his father, and I am sad to learn in what state it is currently. My thoughts are with Abdulmanap and the family Nurmagomedov during the battle.”
Irishman Conor McGregor has also passed on his thoughts to the family Nurmagomedov via Twitter.
“I pray for the restoration of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. A man who is behind most of the world champions that we believe through the multiple disciplines of combat sport. A true genius of martial arts. Very sad to learn this news this evening. I pray for the family Nurmagomedov at this time.”
