According to experts, today at the disposal of the Beijing 290 nuclear warheads is the third Arsenal after Russia and the us. On the strategic potential of China and its perspectives — in the material RIA Novosti.

“Long arm” of Beijing

To develop nuclear weapons, the Chinese helped the Soviet specialists. From 1950 to 1960, China was visited by about ten thousand employees of the nuclear industry of the USSR. However, in subsequent years the relations between the two States deteriorated, and the Soviet Union assistance program turned.
However China pretty quickly figured out what was happening, and produced a nuclear bomb themselves. A year after the first ground testing of the Chinese warhead dropped from an airplane, and in June 1967 hydrogen bomb detonated with a capacity of 3.3 megatons. Thus, China became the world’s fourth nuclear power after the USSR, USA and England.Today Beijing has a full “triad” — the weapons of mass destruction, deployed on air, land and sea carriers. In may, the Pentagon published a report on strategic capabilities and military developments of the PRC in 2019: according to these estimates, China has about 90 Intercontinental ballistic missiles — mine (“Dongfeng -4” and “Dongfeng-5A”) and deployed on movable chassis (“DF-31” and “Dongfeng-31A”), as well as the latest “Dongfeng-41” — their first demonstrated at the military parade in Beijing on 1 October.

This solid-fuel Intercontinental ballistic missile throws from ten to 12 nuclear warheads of individual guidance in the range of about 14 thousand kilometers. Thus, the DF-41 can be called one of the most long-range ICBMs in the world, capable of striking targets throughout the continental United States.

As noted at the beginning of October the American edition Military Watch, the escalation of tensions in relations between Beijing and Washington is pushing China towards a more efficient delivery systems of weapons of mass destruction.

Sea and air carriers

According to the report, The Military Balance is the International Institute for strategic studies (IISS), the marine component of the nuclear deterrent forces of China are represented by four nuclear submarines of the project “Jin” (Type-094). Each carrying 12 ballistic missiles of type “Cuilan-2” with a range of eight to nine thousand kilometers, was created on the basis of the land DF-31. In mass media there was information on laying the fifth and sixth hulls of nuclear submarines, so in the near future, the number of SLBMs available to the Chinese Armed forces may increase to 72 units.

Strategic nuclear submarine “Jin” (Type-094)Now China is developing a strategic submarine of new generation “Type-096”, the construction of which is planned to start in 2020’s. custom-creates a new family of ballistic missiles “Cuilan-3” with a range of up to 12 thousand kilometers and multiple warheads of individual guidance. Second of June 2019, the US intelligence reported that the Chinese successfully tested a new weapon in the Gulf Bhiwani (North-Western part of the Yellow sea).In September 2016, the Beijing officially confirmed the development of a strategic bomber of a new generation of Xian H-20. This subsonic stealth aircraft to be built under the scheme “flying wing”, like its American counterpart, the B-2. A range of not less than eight thousand kilometers, payload in internal bays — up to ten tons. According to the American analysts, H-20 will be ready to stand on the wing after 2025.

The air force and the PLA Navy have about 170 machines of this type in different variants. Depending on the H-6 can carry up to nine tons of bombs, including thermonuclear cruise missiles “air — surface” and “air — ship”. The bearer of the weapons of mass destruction experts call, in particular, the latest version of bomber H-6K, adopted in 2011. These vehicles at the disposal of the PLA is about 90. The range of these aircraft — three thousand kilometers.H-6K carries up to 12 tonnes of payload, including a new cruise missile CJ-10K, which can arm nuclear warheads. They develop a speed of up to 1000 kilometers per hour and hit targets at a distance up to 1,500 kilometers from the starting point. Thus, the PLA air force can strike any object on the Korean Peninsula, and the H-6K based in the military district of Guangzhou, is able to get to the American island of GUAM.

For every taste

In addition, according to American experts, China has an impressive Arsenal of ballistic missiles of intermediate-range missiles “Dongfeng-26” — up to 80 units. They can throw a nuclear warhead at 3000-5500 kilometers. In non-nuclear warheads these missiles can be used to destroy large surface ships, for which the Western press called them “murderers of aircraft carriers”.The largest can be called the Chinese Arsenal of weapons and medium-range. The first group includes four versions of the missiles, the DF-21A, DF-21C, DF-21D and DF-21E — only about 150 launchers. Carriers of nuclear warheads, the DF-21A and DF-21E China not more than fifty. Short-range missiles (DF-11, DF-15 and DF-16) there are several hundreds, but a nuclear warhead they can’t throw. According to experts, it is the presence in the PRC a large number of intermediate and short-range was the cause of the US withdrawal from the Treaty on the elimination of these weapons.

In particular, the parade in Beijing for the first time demonstrated a ballistic missile medium-range DF-17, is designed to launch into the height hypersonic warhead DF-ZF in nuclear or conventional warheads.
