The actor Michel Dumont is dead, confirmed on Thursday afternoon the Theatre Duceppe. He was 79 years old.
The actor is said to have died in the night from Wednesday to Thursday, surrounded by his loved ones, has indicated to the QMI Agency Jean-Simon Traversy, who succeeded Michel Dumont at the head of the Théâtre Duceppe in 2018, in tandem with his colleague David Laurin.
Michel Dumont had lost his wife, Manon Bellemare, swept away by a cancer in 2015, after 30 years of love. The couple had no child.
“The departure of Michel upsets us and leaves us well great shoes to put on. Throughout his career, he has brought to end of arm the torch theatre’s popular and accessible, fighting for our language and culture take their place back on our scenes. For any team to Duceppe, he has been a friend, a role model, an advisor and mentor exceptional. He will be greatly missed. The Compagnie Jean Duceppe has mentioned in its press release sent Thursday that it “will invite the collaborators, friends and admirers of Michel Dumont to gather for a final tribute in the theatre that he led for so many years. The details of this event will be announced shortly”.
