BRUSSELS, 12 Dec. /TASS/. The European Union “carefully” assessing the results of the meeting “channel four” (Russia, Ukraine, Germany, France), which took place on 9 December in Paris. For the first time after a three year break in Paris on 9 December hosted a summit “channel four”. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the presidents of Russia, Ukraine and France Vladimir Putin, Vladimir Zelensky and Emmanuel macron met at the Elysee Palace to discuss the problem of settlement of the internal Ukrainian conflict in the Donbas.

At the summit the first time and personal a bilateral meeting with Russian and Ukrainian leaders, who communicated only by phone. This fact was noted by the President of France at the final press-conference as one of the main positive outcomes of the summit.
During the negotiations, which lasted a total of more than seven hours, the parties have prepared a final document, which expressed a number of specific agreements. One of the expected outcomes was the decision to hold an exchange of prisoners in the Donbass on the principle of “all installed all installed” already before the New year. The summit also called for full and comprehensive cease-fire until the end of 2019, and agreed to support the agreement in the framework of the Contact group on the settlement in Eastern Ukraine on three additional areas of cultivation of forces and means in the conflict zone by the end of March 2020.

The main outcome was an agreement to continue discussion at the highest level in Normandy format in four months, and during this time to make some steps towards a political settlement of the conflict in the Donbass.
