The number of cases of contamination per day remains high
The minister points to continued strong hospital pressure and significant virus circulation with “15,000 contaminations detected per day on average, while we had dropped to 11,000 …“explains Olivier Véran. The objective was to reduce the cases of contamination to 5,000 per day on average.
According to the latest hospital data, 4,174 people are still hospitalized in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, including 1,021 in the Rhône. Figures down since November, but tension in hospitals remains high. The region was the most affected in the country with a peak of 7,200 patients in mid-November, it is now the situation in the Grand Est and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté that worries the authorities.
As the vaccination campaign begins, the fear of a third wave is present
They particularly fear a third wave after the holidays. After lifting the curfew for Christmas Eve, Olivier Véran advises against celebrating the New Year, “We cannot, for one evening, take the risk of blocking the country again for weeks“, he argued.
In parallel, the vaccination campaign began this Sunday with the administration of the first doses in Sevran, in Seine-Saint-Denis, Dijon must follow. On this occasion Olivier Véran declared that “This vaccine protects 95% of individuals against severe cases and will save many lives“.
