Chairman of the state Council of the DPRK Kim Jong-UN will not take part in the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which will be held on 25 November in South Korea. This was announced on Thursday, the Central Telegraph Agency of Korea (KCNA) in a commentary under the title “all you need For a good time and place.”
According to the Agency, the leader of the DPRK received a personal invitation from the South Korean President, moon Jae-Ins to attend the ASEAN summit in Busan. The KCNA notes that a number of opposition political parties in South Korea “continue to be skeptical of the relationship between the North and the South.” Moreover, according to the DPRK, Seoul “continues to rely on external forces, not national cooperation.”
“Conservative forces of South Korea zealously condemn and commit attacks on the DPRK, calling for the cancellation of the agreement between the North and the South, – emphasized in the comments. – There are even such violent phrases as “regime change in the North and bringing the North to collapse,” that was previously impossible to hear.” The authors of the review expressed doubt that “the meeting between the North and the South would be complete at this time”.
“Due to the fact that nothing has been achieved on the implementation of the agreements concluded by [the leaders of the two countries at the meetings] in Panmunjom, Pyongyang and mount baekdu, the summit of the North and South for the sake of the meeting would be meaningless,” – said the Agency. “We are grateful for the trust and sincerity of the South, but we hope that she will understand the reason why we were unable to find a good enough reason to visit of the Chairman of the state Council of Korea in Busan”, – said the KCNA.
From April 2018 the leaders of the DPRK and South Korea held three meetings, which was the beginning of normalization of bilateral relations. The first took place on 27 April at the border crossing at Panmunjom. According to its results, the two leaders signed a Declaration on peace, prosperity and unification of the Korean Peninsula.
May 26 the same year, Kim Jong-UN and moon Jae-In was the second meeting in Panmunjom, the third summit was a meeting on 18 September in Pyongyang. However, the contacts between the DPRK and South Korea declined sharply after the unsuccessful completion of the meeting in Hanoi in February this year, during which the US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Ynu failed to reach an agreement.
