Austrian President Alexander van der Bellen said the traditional good relations between Russia and his country. However, he expressed the hope that that will help further their development. He stated this in an interview TASS.

Alexander van der Bellen said that everything in Austria remember the Soviet soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country’s liberation from Nazi invaders. This looks like a great monument on Schwarzenbergplatz in Vienna. The head of state said that in the liberation of Austria killed 100 of thousands of Soviet and 10 thousand American soldiers.

Van der Bellen also said that relations between Russia and Austria is traditionally very good and have a long history. On the eve of the forum “Sochi dialogue,” he expressed hope for their further development.

Vladimir Putin and Alexander van der Bellen in June last year agreed to contribute to the creation of the Sochi forum, which should become a platform for contact and communication between representatives of civil societies of the two States.

12 March 2019 Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov and foreign Minister of Austria Karin Kneissl signed a Declaration on the establishment of the forum. Approved four priority areas: the economy; inter-University cooperation, science and exploration; music, art and culture; the development of sport. The constituent meeting of the Russian-Austrian forum will be held in mid-may in Sochi.
