University courses at a distance? Possible. Football games university distance? Impossible.
The réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) is considering all the scenarios for season 2020 university football and the complete cancellation of the campaign, thus including these games of high intensity between these rivals that are the Carabins of the University of Montreal and the Red and Gold of the University Laval.
The detachment physics is the main obstacle standing before the holding of a football season, but also from several other academic disciplines. The RSEQ is said for the moment in the blur as to what will happen during the season, but wants to react as nimbly as possible when the public Health will give the green light to the resumption of team sport.
“We follow as the whole world the evolution [of the situation], confessed to the president and director general of the RSEQ, Gustave Roel, in an interview with the issuance JiC on TVA Sports on Thursday. We do not have information that is very accurate. It is known that there was a re-opening step-by-step is coming. Different factors will modulate the ability to have or not have a season. There are, among others, the distance of two meters.”
“It is very difficult to do outside of football and to keep the distance of two meters. This is true for a lot of sports in Quebec. This element will be very important to know when we can start our season”, said the CEO of the RSEQ.
One of the other limiting factors which speaks about Gustave Roel is the shift between regions. In addition to Montreal, home of the Carabins, but also of the Stingers at Concordia University and the team from McGill University, as well as in Quebec city, plays the Red and Gold, the training must move to Sherbrooke, home of the Green and Gold.
“We know that the first activities will be very local or regional before that we think have something of a provincial. We prepare all of the scenarios, the worst as the most beautiful. It could go up to the cancellation pure and simple,” summed up Roel.
Before the break of Quebec, in mid-march, the organization of the game in the Vanier cup 2020 had not yet been assigned to any university. Thus, even at the national level, with USports, the RSEQ remain in the unknown.
