July 8, Russia celebrates the Day of family, love and fidelity. Folk-a Christian holiday dedicated to the day of memory in the Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Prince Peter and Princess Fevronia, Murom miracle workers.
According to legend, the girl Febronia healed the Prince Peter of leprosy. After that he took the Savior to his wife. The couple lived in peace and harmony to old age. In advanced years they took monastic vows and asked God to die in one day. Peter and Fevronia died on 8 July (25 June, old style), 1228. Their bodies placed in different monasteries, but next morning they were together. Canonized Peter and Fevronia in 1547. They became the patrons of family and marriage.
In day of memory of saints in churches is worship. The couple pray to the saints for their families, and marriage ask the blessing. Also on this day, Christians make the pilgrimage to Holy Trinity monastery in Murom, where the relics of the saints. On this day, many couples marry or get engaged.
In Russia, officially the holiday is celebrated 12 times. In 2002, the youth of the city of Moore has offered to revive the tradition of celebrating of Day of Peter and Fevronia in Russia. In 2008 this idea was supported by the Russian Orthodox Church, public organizations, the Interreligious Council of Russia. Thus, on 8 July was the all-Russian Day of family, love and fidelity . The organizing Committee of the celebration was headed by the President of Fund socially-cultural initiatives Svetlana Medvedeva.
Earlier it was reported that Muscovites will be able to get married on the Day of family, love and loyalty July 8. The ceremony will be held in the wedding Palace No. 3. The establishment is going daily work. Now future newlyweds will be able to register the marriage in a symbolic date. Earlier in the Moscow registry offices Sunday and Monday were days of rest.
