Countries of the Shanghai cooperation organization (SCO) need to implement a joint programme to combat terrorism, said Secretary of security Council of Kyrgyzstan Damir Sagynbaev, reports “Interfax”.

“The parties stressed the need for implementation of a comprehensive programme of cooperation of SCO in combating terrorism,” said Sagynbaev at a meeting with secretaries of security councils of member States of the SCO.

The secretaries of the security Council noted the importance of establishing a global front against terrorism with the UN’s coordinating role.

“They expressed their intention to enhance the coordination of competent bodies to detect and prevent illegal activities on the state borders. Agreed to continue cooperation in the fight against propaganda of terrorism in Internet,” – said the Secretary of security Council of Kyrgyzstan.

One of the key factors of security in the SCO space the meeting participants believe speedy settlement in Afghanistan. As for the Syrian settlement, the parties noted here, the positive role of “Astana.” They also stated the importance of “consistent implementation of a comprehensive plan of action to resolve the situation” surrounding the nuclear program of Iran.

In addition, the SCO countries should develop a common strategy to combat drug trafficking.

Secretaries of security councils of the SCO member States at a meeting in Bishkek signed a Protocol in which, in particular, condemned terrorism, and called for the development of joint approaches in the fight against drugs, declared the inadmissibility of an arms race in space.

The next meeting will be held in 2020 in Russia, said Sagynbaev.

Earlier, the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov called for deeper integration within SCO to counter new challenges and threats.

Kyrgyzstan this year Chairman of the SCO. June 13-14 in the capital of the Republic will host a summit of heads of state of the organization.
