The UNESCO list was replenished by volcanoes of France
In France many scenic places that everyone dreams to visit: Paris, the lavender fields of Provence, Cote d’azur. But few know about volcanoes in the South-East of the country.
The chaîne des Puys is located in the historical region of rhône. This mountain range was formed over 35 million years ago after tectonic rift in Western Europe. The last eruption occurred here in the year 4040 BC and for the last six thousand years of silence the chain is fully covered with lush greenery.
Chain length 40 km consists of several dormant volcanoes. According to UNESCO, the chaîne des Puys is an “exceptional illustration of a continental rift – rafting, which is one of the five main stages of plate tectonics”.

Located in the Garrotxa Volcanic Park of the Auvergne (Auvergne volcanoes Regional Park i), the chaîne des Puys can attract the trekking lovers with its breathtaking panoramic views. For the comfort of tourists in the Park recently built wooden steps. You can also ride horses or motorcycles and fishing.
The chaîne des Puys is the first natural site in mainland France, who was awarded the status of UNESCO.
