On the verge of launching an indefinite general strike, the Federation of Early Childhood Workers of Quebec (FIPEQ-CSQ) is proposing to call in an independent arbitrator to settle the remuneration problem.
If the Minister of the Family Mathieu Lacombe accedes to the request of the FIPEQ-CSQ, the strike which was to start on Monday would be avoided.
“It will not be possible to resolve the calculation gap that separates us today. In order to avoid an indefinite general strike, I invite the Minister of Families to accept our outstretched hand to sign an agreement, ”said FIPEQ-CSQ President Valérie Grenon in a press release.
The question of the salary of home educators is at the center of the conflict. Educators say they earn $ 12.42 an hour, less than the minimum wage which was increased to $ 13.10 last May. The union is asking for an increase to $ 16.75.
Since September 1, various family circles across Quebec have carried out rotating strikes.
