Three races of F1 in a month at Silverstone?

Trois courses de F1 en un mois à Silverstone?

The opportunity for Formula 1 to present its first trials in camera in Europe this summer seems more and more real.

This is the main item that was discussed and welcomed, it seems, by the various stakeholders of the discipline-queen of the motor sport gathered Thursday in a teleconference.

According to reveal a good number of specialized websites, the only way to undertake a season 2020, which has seen its first nine stages to be postponed or cancelled because of the COVID-19, it is to organize races without spectators.

The Canadian Grand Prix, initially scheduled for 14 June, has been officially shifted last week. The same fate should be reserved for the Grand Prix of France, recorded two weeks later in the calendar.

Kick-off in Austria ?

Hope is rekindled, however, for the 11th stop that must take place on 5 July at the circuit of Spielberg, the property of the company Red Bull.

The host country, Austria, has recently relaxed its restrictions of containment. Red Bull would have already accepted the possibility of organizing a Grand Prix behind closed doors, but she refuses, however, to anticipate the date of the event, as is the wish of the F1.

The F1 have also discussed the possibility of holding the following three races in… a month at the Silverstone circuit, site of the Grand Prix of Great Britain. They would also take place in front of the stands empty.

Already, two events of importance have been cancelled in this country in July, the Wimbledon tennis and british Open golf. Any gathering in England, therefore, is excluded before the end of the summer.

According to sources close to the matter, this idea of three races in four weeks at Silverstone would have made the unanimity. The approach would limit the long trips during this period of a pandemic. Recall that seven of the ten stables of the plateau are established in England, with the exception of Ferrari, AlphaTauri and Alfa-Romeo.

For one, Racing Point, led by Canadian Lawrence Stroll, is based in the vicinity of the complex race of Silverstone.

Three races, two paths

So, what is it of these three races in four weeks on the same circuit ?

This suggestion to provide more of a test at Silverstone has been referred to several weeks ago. And the managers of the track have argued that it is possible to modify the path.

The project to roll the cars backwards would have, however, been rejected. This provision would require additional costs to add or move safety barriers and to review areas of clearing, the proponent would not be willing to take.
