Tournoi «La MLS est de retour»: le Toronto FC s’endort au mauvais moment

Toronto FC has seen the D. C. United to register two goals late in the game to be content with a tie of 2 to 2, Monday afternoon in Orlando, in a match of the group stage of the tournament “The MLS is back”.

For the troops of head coach Greg Vanney, it is a disappointing result, because Ayo Akinola had launched in front thanks to a double in the first half. Replacing Jozy Altidore, cut off by his instructor, he has touched the target during the 12th and 44th minutes, each time on a pass from Alejandro Pozuelo.

However, Federico Higuain replied in the 84th minute for the D. C. United, who had a player less for the entire second half due to a red card awarded to Junior Moreno late in the initial period. Then, Frederic Brillant has equaled the mark in stoppage time of the second half-time.

Akinola has totaled six shots, including five framed to goalkeeper Bill Hamid. The latter has stopped five balls, compared to three for his vis-à-vis Quentin Westberg.

Within group C, the Revolution of the New-England dominates with three points, two more than TFC, and the D. C. United.

By the way, the reason of the absence of Altidore has not been specified.

The duel between the two formations was to take place the day before, but it was postponed to the next day, because a player has undergone a test which had proved positive, whereas the diagnosis of another could not be clearly determined. The two athletes concerned are subject to an additional review, Sunday, and they were declared negative. Later in the day, the D. C. United has indicated that the second tests that have sustained their athletes have also proved negative and that the players could find their teammates.

The postponement of this match has forced the postponement of the one in front with the TFC the Montreal Impact. The two canadian formations cross the iron on Thursday, at 20h, on the waves of the channel, TVA Sports.
