The citizens of Quebec who wish to treat their ash trees are going to pay the same rate as that charged by the private providers to the municipality for the same service.
This is what can be read in a decision summary made public by the City Thursday in the late morning. Following a call for tenders, the company Fertibeauce, Sainte-Marie, has been awarded a contract of$ 360,000 for the “treatment of ash trees for injection with TreeAzin”.
The purpose of the exercise is to “counteract the spread of the emerald ash borer, according to a unit price to the inch of stem,” says-t-on.
Thus, “the City of Québec wishes to benefit its citizens a competitive price for those who want to treat their ash trees on private. To this effect, the buyer of the contract agrees to make the injection of ash trees from private properties on the territory of the city at the same price as the one listed for the ash tree public for any citizen to him for making the request prior to August 14, 2020”, one reads in the document.
It adds that “it shall be the responsibility of the citizen or property owner to contact the contractor and make all the necessary arrangements for the realization of the injection treatment (…) A campaign of information and awareness-raising will be issued to communicate to the citizens the contact information of the supplier as well as the methods used”.
In recent years, the emerald ash borer has invaded almost the entire territory of Quebec and forced the municipal administration to review its plans.
