US President Donald Trump on Sunday demanded that his Democratic opponent in the White House race, Joe Biden, take a doping test during their first televised debate on Tuesday.
“His performance during the debates was UNMATCHED like never before, to put it mildly. Could only drugs have caused these discrepancies ??? “tweeted the Republican billionaire who is late in the polls for the November 3 presidential election.
“I will firmly demand a doping test for the sleeping Joe Biden, before or after the debate on Tuesday evening,” he added, using the nickname he likes to mock the former vice-president 77 years old.
Donald Trump also assured that he would agree “of course” to submit to the same test.
The two septuagenarian candidates must face each other on Tuesday for 90 minutes for their first televised duel, which will be followed by two other debates in October.
According to American media, their teams put the final touches on Saturday to the conditions of the confrontation, moderated by the journalist of Fox News Chris Wallace: first question to the outgoing president after toss or toss, no handshake and ultra-small audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This condition of the doping test was not mentioned.
This is not the first time that Donald Trump has suggested that Joe Biden take drugs or medication, without specifying which ones. He has already noted that his performance during some debates for the Democratic primary, at the end of 2019, at the beginning of 2020, had been more solid than others of his media interventions.
Known for his slippages and blunders, the Democratic candidate, who continues to sometimes suffer from short moments of stuttering that have poisoned his youth, has so far brushed aside these accusations.
The presidential candidate has also in the past asked his rival to take a cognitive test or measure his IQ, suggesting that he may have some form of senility.
Joe Biden, meanwhile, said on Saturday that he expected Donald Trump to multiply “personal attacks” and “lies” on Tuesday night. “That's all he can do,” he added.
