The Turkish foreign Ministry called the American initiative “disrespectful” to the sovereign decisions concerning the national security of the country.
ANKARA, December 12. /TASS/. The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Turkey delivered a speech on Thursday condemning the preparation of anti-sanctions Committee of the Senate of the U.S. Congress on foreign Affairs.”Supported by the two houses of Congress and anti-Turkish circles are another manifestation of disrespect for our sovereign decisions concerning our national security – said in a statement released by the Department. – We urge Congress to act reasonably and to take a constructive stance, so as not to damage our shared goals, which were confirmed in recent weeks at the highest level.”
The Senate Committee of Congress on foreign Affairs on Wednesday approved a package of sanctions against Turkey and its financial sector in connection with the Ankara military operation in the North-East of Syria and the purchase of Russian anti-aircraft missile systems (WRU) s-400. Now the document will be submitted for consideration by the full Senate, where it can be amended. A similar bill was approved by the House of representatives of the U.S. Congress at the end of October.
The initiative obliges the us President Donald trump to impose restrictions against those involved in military operations in Syria, in particular against the Minister of national defence of Turkey Hulusi ACAR. In addition, it is noted in the document, the administration in Washington in the framework of the law CAATSA (“ON countering the enemies of America by sanctions”) is required to impose restrictions in connection with the purchase by Ankara of s-400.
