Two men aged 24 and 37 died overnight from Friday to Saturday in a road accident in Charente-Maritime. For reasons which remain to be determined, their vehicle left the road which skirted the channel of Mérignac, in the town of Bourcefranc-le-Chapus. The accident happened between 3 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., when the vehicle was discovered submerged in the channel, on the roof.

The bodies of the two victims, from the Marennes basin and the only occupants of the car, were brought up by firefighting divers.

In total, 18 firefighters intervened this Saturday morning in this marsh area. The gendarmerie opened an investigation, entrusted to the Marennes-Hiers-Brouage brigade.
