Two employees of a retirement home in Trois-Rivières tested positive for COVID-19

Place Belvédère, a retirement home in Trois-Rivières, went into alert mode after two employees tested positive for COVID-19. The measures were put in place quickly to avoid repeating the sad record of last April.

The bad news fell on Thursday. An infection prevention and control team from the Mauricie-et-du-Center-du-Québec Integrated University Health and Social Services Center (CIUSSS-MCQ) was sent to the site to curb the outbreak. The residence has 435 retirement homes and the majority of residents are over 70 years old.

“All of the residence's employees are currently in the screening process and Public Health still considers residents at low risk of contracting COVID-19. The public health infection prevention team has been with us since yesterday, for 28 days, in addition to frequent conference calls with the CIUSSS-MCQ ”, explained the Vice-President of Sales, Marketing and Communications. at Gestion Résidences des Bâtisseurs, Kristel Louboutin.

Inside the building, nothing is left to chance. Residents must wear the mask. Dining room service workers also wear eye protection. The number of residents admitted to the room has been reduced. The two-meter distance is imposed everywhere. Agents are posted at the gates to manage entry and exit from the residence with signature and temperature measurement. Then, all surfaces are regularly disinfected.

“Five employees of the residence were withdrawn because they had been in contact with an infected colleague. Thursday evening, we received their results and fortunately, they are negative, ”added Ms. Louboutin.

Do not panic

Residents and families who have been met by TVA Nouvelles assure that they feel safe. When they learned that two employees had been infected, a slight sense of panic set in at the mere thought of the return of lockdown and full isolation.

“Everyone wears the mask! I pay attention, I wash my hands, we respect the distances, we have no choice! I have confidence, ”said President Denise Gagnon.

“At the time, we asked ourselves questions, but they acted quickly! The employees have been removed. I feel safe, ”said Fernand Caron, a resident of the place.

According to the co-ownership association on site, the only point that could be improved is the speed of communication.
