Dreamlike and surreal, Veks’ style is imbued with various influences. From Gustave Doré or Caravaggio to Jheronimus Bosch or even the Flemish primitives, many classical painters have inspired him over the last centuries. However, a victim of his generation, his work is also tainted by pop culture, video games, manga, graffiti as well as tattooing.

Each painting or drawing by Veks Van Hillik seems to be an ode to the imagination, a secret window into his dreams and chimeras, in which each scene, each character is a subtle blend of candor and darkness.
