The breeding male arrived in the Bois de Vincennes from Morocco in November. Management hopes to see the birth of lion cubs in the first half of 2021.
It weighs no less than 215 kilos. Volcan, an 8-year-old lion from the Atlas, is the newcomer to the Paris Zoological Park, located in the Bois de Vincennes.
The breeding male arrived last November 13 from Rabat, Morocco. He has been living for a month in a 2500 square meter enclosure, with three females and another male.
“We are in the process of forming a clan with females, a reproductive male and, therefore, a possibility of reproduction. This was not the case in the previous composition of the group of lions, notes at the microphone of BFM Paris Pierre- Yves Bureau, director of the zoo. We hope to have cubs from the first half of 2021. “
Volcan is currently taking advantage of the park’s closure to acclimatize to its new environment. For the moment, no reopening date has been confirmed for this park housing 2,800 animals.
